Not quite the Amen Corner, but alluring none the less:

Let's say you've never been to Lynchburg, VA before. And let's also suppose that you see signs for--what's this?--an attraction known as Amazement Square? Understandably, you couldn't resist. That is, of course, until you come to learn that, far from being a true square (rectangular prism at best) or, for that matter,
particularly amazing, the aforementioned not-so-amazing not-quite square is, in fact, a place for minors. Not the sort who would make
another reference to the anthrocite museum warranted, mind you, but the kind who can't see
a PG-13 movie even if it stars Rodney Dangerfield and Jonathan Brandis.
Our travels were not in vain, however. Don't get the wrong idea! There were very cool art deco buldings from the last century (duh!) that inspired us to put
"that kitty cat's got claws" on our queue. We also saw a number of signs that inspired a variety of lame band names and somewhat less lame album covers. For example, pay attention not to the wind-blown fountain streaming in the background, but the double-entendre-ready text staring you in the face:

Thanks to the magic of digital editing, look at how cool an album cover this makes:

See? Now all we need is an album of live material from
clocklife and we're in business...
I've got to go right now, but we should have more soon! :)
As to "Amen Corner", you know, of course, that Lynchburg is the home of Jerry Falwell's Liberty University.
ReplyDeleteDid you also know that Thomas Jefferson once said, "Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to be useful to the town of Lynchburg. I consider it as the most interesting spot in the state."?
