Here's your weekly dose of Monday Morning Good news:
1) Our favorite hamlet will be hosting Amherst Idol this fall for anyone 16+. Now, aside from the Amherst Bee held at the middle school each year, this is something I'd like to attend.
2) Dog Vomit Slime Molds are on the rise in Charlottesville this summer, thanks to additional precipitation. Yes, we already knew. Disgusting.
And, 3) Guest blogger K-Dawg Extraordinaire has outdone herself this time. While looking through NJ.com for an explanation of what an EMT told her was a bomb scare on Scott's Corner Road in P'boro, she came across what might be the best conceived documentary about our fair town since Walking About Plainsboro. I'm trying very hard to embed this video in the post, but Blogger is giving me trouble and my personal tech guru is out collecting research on parenting for an NSF grant. *grumble* Instead, I'll merely link now and attempt to embed throughout the day. I now present to you: Plainsboro 1986 (the 2009 Director's Cut).
This gem of a school project takes viewers on a tour through historic P'boro, beginning in Ben's old neighborhood (collecting money for Princeton University), where he was one of the little tykes mentioned by the narrator. You can see ye olde Package Store, the farm land later turned into the P'boro Town Center and illustrious Queenship of Mary, the old town hall (which pre-dates Kennedy arrival in town), the Shop 'n Bag, Aljon's!!, my favorite bagel store, our Bank of America branch, the former Merrill Lynch offices across from the P'boro Historical Society. It's a true tour de force. Until the debut of Walking About Plainsboro, I think Plainsboro 1986 definitely reigns as the best film depicting 08536. Wouldn't you all agree?
(By the way, no further news is known about the bomb scare. But in looking for more information, I learned that Plainsboro is home to ReCAP, a library facility that holds more than 7.5 million volumes from Princeton, Columbia, and the New York Public Library. Who knew? *Caro, I'm looking your way.*)

In sad news, Sr. Mary, my dad's aunt and a steady Kennedy presence, died last week after complications from a fall. Ever the coolest nun we've known, she has very 21st century online tributes here and here. "Well done good," indeed.
