The Seasons They are a Changin'

We want to believe that ice cream, and its universally appealing creamy deliciousness, has no seasonality, but fearing the end of summer may soon be in sight, we took a short break from the demands of our busy, boring schedules to catch a bite at our neighborhood parking lot ice cream vendor, Chandler's (where "nothing says summer like gooey ice cream in a tractor store parking lot."). On Ben's suggestion, we split an oreo crush. It was mmmm mmmm good and tasted just like summer should.

But other than the ice cream, the only thing to talk about is mold. And who really wants to read about mold? Well, judging from my recent Googling, I do, but we all know where I stand with mold... Anyway, on Sunday we noticed a rather substantial leak from one of the pipes associated with our air conditioning unit, resulting in dripping, minor league flooding (it was no washing machine disaster), and some filthy towels. Our trusty maintenance men had it cleared up in a jiff, thankfully, but I feared the impending mold outgrowth. Instead of finding it in the air conditioning closet, I happened upon an outbreak of stachybotrys in the bathroom. THEN I learned that environmental mold counts were moderately high here today, too. Lovely. See? We needed the ice cream, even if it is a trigger for my own deep-set mold allergies. Soothing, yet toxic. The cycle continues: as we do homework/spreadsheets/video coding/telecommuting,* we cough, we sneeze, we wash our hands religiously while imaging H1N1 antibodies growing stronger each day, and continue telling ourselves, "Oh, it's just fall [sneeze, itch, cough] allergies!"

* Ben was "blessed" after a sneeze by folks across the country during his weekly videoconference on Monday afternoon. Me, I was just ignored by all the other hacking, sniffling, dripping nerds in the Pony Barn...
