All's fair in love and ice cream

Apparently, today was east coast Dad & Lad Day. While J and Matt watched a Yankees game, Don and Ben shared some meals, some walks, and some SciFi movie action (is it SyFy now?). I crashed for some of the time to both enjoy their company and avoid work, which I'd call a smashing success. True to form, the SyFy movie time was all theirs. ;-) Thanks for the meals and the good conversation, Don!

Yesterday was a big day; we finally tried the Chap's "banana boat" to fulfill my recent banana split craze. To be fair, it wasn't all I imagined it to be, given how freaking amazing Chap's malted chocolate shakes can be, but it was pleasant and fun just the same.

This means my quest for understanding and experiencing the world's perfect banana split must continue. Related: if on their recent visit to Monticello, Malia, Sasha, and Michelle stopped for Arch's frozen yogurt, Meg needs to stop for Arch's frozen yogurt. Maybe Sasha ordered the banana split "Archer," just as I plan to do as soon as possible.

While we were downtown yesterday, we stopped at the public chalk art exhibition on the mall, and found a message just for you, Mr. Halk-Kar:

It was meant to be. Hope you enjoy the written SyFy dropped your way (and I for one am jealous of your gorgeous orange gladiolas!). Should surgery continue as planned for Monday, know we're all thinking of you.

And, without further ado, we must also publicly congratulate Caro, our dearwonderfulhappytimes friend, who just received a job offer at, of all places, Yale University. Dude! We're SO happy for you! Congratulations!

I envision many gleeful visits to New Haven in our future... ;-)

What would Buddha do?

Fred-san,

Here is a get-well haiku for you:

Live long and prosper
Faster than speeding bullet
may Force be with you

Best,
Ben

This Modern World

Here's your morning moment of zen: Our local paper created a fake twitter account for Mike Comer, the missing Glenmore neighborhood treasurer. Oy...

Update on Mr. Halk-Kar: He's still in the hospital, still fighting infection, still awaiting organ removal. However, I hear tell that his interlibrary loan books were delivered and, as a reader/introvert myself projecting onto Dave, I imagine he is already feeling much better. ;-) Keep healing, Fred! We're busily investigating the ways jet-packs may/will help you retain some gall in the coming months.

And, finally, I must have jinxed us by posting that sun-shower photo the other night, because just yesterday we drove home through a torrential downpour involving flooded roads, ineffective windshield wipers, and distressed motorists. All while simultaneously squinting through sunglasses because of the bright, blinding evening sunlight. Virginia, you're a wacky, weird place.
